Apple Pie Braid

This recipe is one of my favorites.  I love apple pie and so this is like another way to make it. This is perfect after a nice dinner with friends because is pretty looking and easy to make. Enjoy with a scoop of ice cream. Makes 2 Braids.

UPDATE: I'm looking at this now about 4 month into my blogging and I must say, this braid came out so ugly.  As I'm writing this I'm actually cracking up.  But, I decided to leave it on my blog because it was delicious..it didn't matter how ugly it turned out, the taste was banging, and most importantly, my friend Judy love it!!

I'm evolving as a blogger, and I'm sure every blogger out there has a picture from when they first started that they are ashamed off...and that's okay.

The Apple Pie Braid was a perfect end to a nice meal.  The apples were tender and the crust was flaky.  It was a hit!!

Ingredients:

4 Apples cut in small pieces (Prefer Granny Smith Apples)
4 tbsp of butter
1 tbsp cinnamon
1 tsp of nutmeg
1/3 to 1/2 cup of sugar (depending on how sweet the apples are)
2 Puff Pastry Sheets (already made from the supermarket)
Vanilla Ice Cream

Egg wash:

1 egg beaten
1 tbsp of water

Preheat oven at 375 degrees F

In a pan add the apples and 2 tbsp of butter..mix well until butter has melted.

Add the cinnamon, nutmeg and sugar.  Cook  for about 20 minutes until the apples break down.

On your counter with a little bit of flour so the dough wont stick take the puff pastry and roll it out to stretch it a little bit more.

Add the apples right in the center add 1 tbsp of butter cut in small pieces on each braid.  Then you are going to cut on both sides of the pastry dough to create the braid. You need to make sure that you have cut the same amount of strings on each side.

Then you start to crossover each string to create the Braid. Brush with egg wash after you are done.  1 egg beaten with a little water, then brush the braid to give it a nice shinny color.

Place on a baking sheet and bake in the oven for about 20 minutes until golden brown.  This is the result, so delicious...Don't forget the ice cream!! Enjoy!!
